Album 1 : Hillcrest - San Diego, Week 1, Stop 2
Hillcrest - through the lens of TJ Devadatta Best - "Light Inspired Art"
TJ - Devadatta Best - my dear friend had his work cut out for him - bad lighting and a moving target (moi?)! But He caught the light that come from the heart and spills out the eyes... at our second tour stop -dubbed "the Prodigal Daughter returns" - Scottie was born in San Diego, went to SDSU (even tho' she grew up in the San Bernardino Mountains) and started her television career... and fell in love with the love of her life here... Two of our worlds came together at the Uptown Tavern: our first TV family and our our first Yogi family... it was an amazing night! (you can read all about it on the "tournal" section of this site.
In the photographer's own words...
Scottie,
All I can say that I am in awe of your brave heart, your strenght and your refined female intuition. I deeply respect you finally choosing to walk this path (on high heels no less). It is cool for me to see that your freedom to follow your feelings is based on a center inside you that is free of gender, free of mind and feelings, yet happily expresses it self through all these manifestations. I am proud to be your friend. I am proud you walk this path so beautifully together with Marcy. It touches my heart that you feel free to explore this way of being that is so dear to your heart, encouraged by so many friends and supported by your family. I look forward to when you feel ready to book a photoshoot with the Devadatta. It will be awesome and transformational, girl. Oodles of blessings,
Devadatta

Album 2 : Google HQ - Mountainview CA, Week 3
Google - through the lens of Nancy Martin -
Silicon Valley native and great friend Nancy is a photo journalist, and Silicon Valley native - before it was dubbed the epicenter of cyberspace... who better to track us into the digital Shangri-La that is Google's sprawling campus... I was never sure whether my crew was more impressed with Google's new world view or that I walked the length of the campus in hell... call me wonder woman.
As Nancy says...
I've watched Scott & Marcy through my lens or over 10 years- usually at a beach while our dogs romped and played. When Scottie came to the beach this year I was struck by the woman who played with our dogs. Same joyous heart, same playful sense of humor, but a calmness that was palpable.. When She asked me to take pictures of her debut at Google, I jumped at the chance - a chance to show my support for her brave and graceful offering. .
Album 3 : Del Mar Library - Week 3, Stop 1
The Prodigal daughter returns... again - through the lens of Blake Johnston
I started my television career here in Del Mar (and met the love of my life!) It was the second time I returned to the scene of the crime. Blake caught it all. - a skateboard shooter, Blake's not used to having such a stationary subject (i considered wearing cement shoes but I didn't want to make it too easy on him!
From Blake
I wondered why my friend Dane asked me to take photos of his Aunt Scottie as she read from her book at the Library. But Dane is a good friend and I thought why not? When I heard his aunt tell her story, I realized that this was way more than the skaters I usually shoot. Aunt Scottie's story needed sensitivity and professionalism and I hope I gave her that.
Album 4 : Savana- Channelle Winery - Week 3, Stop 2
Our first Fundraiser, but our second lensing by Nancy Martin
We were blessed to be back in Nancy's hood and she came back for a second helping (what a saint!) This was our spiciest Q&Q of the tour with two worlds coming tougher for this event; the supporters of the Youthspace and the book club of San Jose - Scottie's story was sometime too close to the bone for the veterans of the LGBTQ struggle, while Scottie & Marcy's love story resonated with the veteran's of the matters of the heart - and Nancy caught it all like a frontline photographer!
Nancy says...
Back for seconds with the Madden's and a little different setting - Scottie & Marcy put their money where their hearts were and joined together with Google to support a worthy organization. More lovely people to photograph - my cup of tea!
Album 5 : Firehouse Art Collective - Week 4, Stop 2
The Tour Finale as seen through the lens of Still Girl, Kerry Kehoe
Kerry and I go way back - I was "video guy" (almost hurts to say it) and she was "still girl" for years working together on several international projects. Now I'm video girl and she's still still girl... It was our biggest event yet and driving rain and yet, it was the perfect finish for an amazing month and half.. (MONTH AND A HALF?" WHAT?) Kerry, who I know as "Mena" was my first choice here, since we were on her turf, and she didn't disappoint - capturing every nuance of a very textured event! As usual, the audience is made up up of dear and precious people who instantly become family for Mylove and me. We want someone who respects that. Mena can do that (like the great photos at all of our events, because she is family.
In Kerry's, (or Mena's same difference) own words:
Scottie & Mena:
I've known, Scottie, for many years and as she says herself, "she did a really good dude.” Scottie and I worked together before she came out. Gifted with the ability to make an impression, the then Scott, whizzed through my office where I worked as a photographer. Not knowing Scott was within earshot in the next room, I turned to my supervisor and asked, "who is that video guy?" Scottie heard me from the next room, and from then on, I called this Scott ‘video guy’ and Scott called me ‘still girl.'
I feel grateful and completely privileged to have worked with Scottie when she presented herself as a soft-fem dude before totally coming out. Presenting us all with the coming attractions of what was to come. Who was this curvy, bang wearing, slip on flats, painted nail [steel-grey at the time], gender-bending Scott?
Even though I offered my blessings for Scottie’s transition, I found myself surprised when I heard the news. Don't get me wrong - I do not have a problem with gender reassignment. But I had to ask myself what was this? This guy who I had come to know as a friend had this whole new side I had barely glimpsed at.
Looking back, I realize Scottie was teaching me about courage. She bravely buckled down and said, "hey, this is my soul and this is who I am." Through example, Scottie was raising my consciousness, my brain synapses were expanding while she stood in her truth, and I realized I wanted to be true to myself as well.
Flash forward to the launch night for Scottie's book. Nothing has really changed, except now the nail polish is red. We rolled right into production mode; the humor is still there, the focus, the perfectionism and the fun. All this lead me to feel the awe of the human experience, one human being focused on her goal in the midst of a chaotic world. I am proud of my friend Scottie and am moved by the dignity and vulnerability she has generously shared with her friends, her community, and now the public.
Go Scottie!!! May this journey be vast, deep, abundant and filled with love.
